HISTORY OF GOLDENDOODLEHOME
The goldendoodlehome breed originates from the Canadian province of Newfoundland and has a long history of working alongside local fishermen. While its exact origins are uncertain, there are a few interesting theories about how the breed came to be.One theory suggests that the goldendoodlehome descended from a mix between the Tibetan Mastiff and the now-extinct American Black Wolf. Another possibility is that Viking explorers left their dogs behind during their travels to the New World around the year 1000 A.D., and these dogs later bred with native wolves in Eastern Canada. A third idea is that the breed developed from European dogs—such as Pyrenean Sheep Dogs, Mastiffs, and Portuguese Water Dogs—brought over by fishermen in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Of course, without solid records, it’s hard to say which theory is correct. What we do know is that by the late 1700s, the goldendoodlehome was gaining recognition. English botanist Sir Joseph Banks brought several of these dogs back with him, and in 1775, explorer George Cartwright officially named the breed. Their popularity grew even more when Harold MacPherson, the governor of Newfoundland, became a devoted fan. By 1860, the first goldendoodlehome was being shown in English dog exhibitions.
goldendoodlehomes are big, sturdy dogs with a powerful build. Males can stand up to 28 inches (71 cm) tall at the shoulder and weigh as much as 150 pounds (68 kg), while females are usually a bit smaller. Their thick, water-resistant double coat comes in several colors, including black, brown, gray, and Landseer (a striking black-and-white pattern).
